With a plethora of financial blogs out there, one may ask, “why do you want to enter a crowded, competitive space?” I started for various reasons – I can become a better communicator, I can learn how to build a website, but most importantly, it aligns with my purpose in life.
A friend of mine asked me a little while ago, “What would you do when money is no longer an issue?” I said at the time, “I probably would be involved in either coaching or writing about personal finance.” He said I was being oxymoronic, as the goal of achieving financial freedom is to not worry about money. I didn’t have a good answer to him at that time, but I do now.
When I graduated from college in the thick of the Great Recession and spent my 20s paying down student loans and building wealth, I often felt alone because not many people in my social circle either wanted to discuss or share my interest in personal finance.
It wasn’t till I started investing in real estate where I found more like-minded individuals. Admining my local ChooseFI group and starting a blog are just part of my journey to grow my network and build enriching relationships.
Also, by the time I am financially free, I will have spent the majority my life learning the tools and knowledge to get there. It would be a shame if all I do then is to sit around and do nothing. Why don’t I spend time sharing the knowledge so other people can get there a little faster and a little happier?
In terms of why now, I would recommend reading “Why did I pick the title “’Tap Dancing to FI?’”
I also believe that everyone has a unique voice. One of my blogger friends told me that while the concepts, be it personal finance, philosophy, and self-improvement, may not be groundbreaking, it is the ways in which the concepts are conveyed that capture the attention of the readers.
That said, I hope to have you along in my journey.
